Sharman White of Miller Grove HS (GA) Named the 2016 NHSCA Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year

Easton, PA – April 25, 2016 - The National High School Coaches Association, NHSCA, is proud to announce Sharman White, head coach at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia as its National High School Boys’ Basketball Coach of the Year.


This past season, Coach White led Miller Grove to its seventh Georgia state basketball championship in eight years with a 30-2 record.  In 20 seasons, White has compiled an overall record of 372-90.



White, who in 2014 was named the USA TODAY All-USA Coach of the Year, was recently named as an assistant coach for the 2016 USA Basketball Men’s U17 World Championship Team that will compete in the FIBA World Championship.  America has a 23-game win streak in the event.

“We are extremely pleased to honor Coach White,” said Bobby Ferraro, Executive Director of the NHSCA. “Coach Smith has established Miller Grove as one of the best high school basketball programs in Georgia and in America.  He exhibits a strong dedication to supporting and developing high school student-athletes.”


Throughout 2016, the NHSCA will be honoring high achievers in the high school coaching community by naming Coaches of the Year in a total of 20 boys’ and girls’ sports.  It’s the 17th straight year that the NHSCA has presented its National Coach of the Year Awards.


Each one of the honorees will receive a beautiful trophy and they will be honored in the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum that the NHSCA will be building in the near future.

2005 – Robert Hughes, Dunbar HS, Texas

2004 – Charles Smith, Peabody Magnet HS, Louisiana

2003 – Dave Garvin, Philomath HS, Oregon
