The National High School Coaches Association (“NHSCA”) is proud to announce Taylor Howard of Plainview High School in Plainview, Oklahoma as its National High School Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year.

This past season, Howard let her team to its third straight Oklahoma state title. This year’s state championship came at the 3A level after back-to-back wins in Class 4A. Over the last four years, Howard has also led the Lady Indians to a 29-5 record in matches.

After getting the three-peat, Howard said the following to The Daily Armdmoreite, “First of all, my two seniors (Hallie Schultz and Adeline Norton), I’ve had them since their freshman year, so it’s very special to have been with them all four years and to finish it off with three state titles. The chemistry this season has been amazing, and we’ve had so much fun as a team. All of these girls deserve this state title after all the work they have put in this season.’

She added, “Each tournament these girls were competing with themselves, For some reason, these girls are highly motivated, and I don’t have to say much to them. They stay out at the course until dark and are there so early in the morning. They always want to be better no matter what.”

Leading the charge to the title was Reagan Chaney, who was the individual champ. Four Plainview golfers finished in the Top 10.

Over the past four seasons, under the guidance of Coach Howard, the Lady Indians have had one player compete at the college level as well as two from the 2019 team that are headed to Oklahoma City University and Redlands.

“We are extremely pleased to honor Coach Howard,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA. “She has established Plainview team as the best in Oklahoma over the last three seasons. She exhibits a strong dedication to supporting and developing her high school student-athletes in the classroom and outside of it.”

Howard is the first Oklahoma coach to be named the NHSCA National Girls’ Golf Coach of the Year.

Throughout June, the NHSCA will be announcing the 2018-2019 Coach of the Year honorees in 20 boys’ and girls’ sports. This marks the 20th consecutive year the NHSCA has honored achievers within the high school athletic community nationwide.

Each of the honorees will receive a beautiful plaque. In addition, the Coach of the Year honoree will be displayed in the National High School Digital Sports Hall of Fame that is currently under development.
