The National High School Coaches Association (“NHSCA”) is pleased to announce Rachel Kuehn of the Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina as its National Senior Girls’ Golf Athlete of the Year.

Kuehn won her third consecutive North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state championship last fall. Kuehn won the tournament by one stroke, posting a two-day score of 138 (67 — 71).

Kuehn won the 2018 North Carolina Amateur Championship and is a three-time All-State honoree. She was honored by USA TODAY as a first-team All-USA member for the 2017-18 school year. Kuehn represented the Dominican Republic in at the 2018 World Amateur Team Championship in Ireland.

Kuehn has accepted a scholarship to play golf at the University of Wake Forest where her mom also played college golf.

“Rachel is an excellent example what this award stands for,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA.  “She has excelled as much in the classroom as she has on the course.  We congratulate her on an outstanding high school career and wish her success at Wake Forest.”

Kuehn is the second North Carolina athlete to win the NHSCA National Senior Girls’ Golf Athlete of the Year Award. In 2009, Courtney Gunter of Porter Ridge High School won the award.

Throughout May, the NHSCA will be announcing the 2018-2019 Athlete of the Year honorees in 20 boys’ and girls’ sports. This marks the 20th consecutive year the NHSCA has honored achievers within the high school athletic community nationwide.

Each of the honorees will receive a beautiful plaque.  In addition, the Athlete of the Year honoree will be displayed in the National High School Digital Sports Hall of Fame that is currently under development.
