The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) is pleased to announce Samantha Mannix of Elkhorn South School in Omaha, Nebraska as the winner of 2017-2018 NHSCA National High School Senior Girls’ Tennis Athlete of the Year Award.

Mannix recently closed out her high school career by winning her fourth straight Nebraska No.1 singles titles. After the match, the future Iowa Hawkeye told, “It was one of my goals since I was probably in middle school. I am ready to move on (to college), but I’m so glad that I was able to represent Elkhorn South.”

Mannix was a perfect 114-0 during her scholastic career. She is the fourth girls in Nebraska girls’ tennis history to win four straight No. 1 singles titles.

“Samantha is an excellent example what this award stands for,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA.  “Samantha has excelled on the tennis court and in the classroom.  We congratulate her on an outstanding high school career and wish her good luck in college.”

Samantha is the second Nebraska student-athlete to win the NHSCA Girls’ Tennis Athlete of the Year Award. Brooke Urzendowski of Marian High School won the award in 2011.

This the 19th year straight year the NHSCA is honoring achievers in the high school athletic community nationwide with its Athlete of the Year Award in 20 boys’ and girls’ sports.  Other winners will be announced throughout the rest of the 2017-18 school year.

Each one of the honorees will receive a beautiful trophy, plus they will be honored in the National High School Sports Digital Hall of Fame Museum that the NHSCA is currently designing.
