The 2018 NHSCA Duals will be a talent filled event

After a record breaking year last year, the 19th Annual NHSCA National Duals continues to showcase the talent nationwide. This year’s event will showcase 366 teams, making this the largest dual meet tournament in the country. The three-day event known as the Battle at the Beach is brought to you by the National High School Coaches Association.


Many of the nation’s top wrestlers will again be competing at this year’s star-studded event held at the Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia over Memorial Day Weekend. Over 5,400 wrestlers are expected to participate on 58 mats.


This event is a true showcase for college coaches as these teams are jam- packed with talent. The three divisions are – High School (Grades 9-12) featuring 195 teams, Middle School (Grades 6-8) with 87 teams and Elementary (Grades 4-6) highlighting 85 teams. Pool wrestling will kick off Saturday, May 26th and continue on Sunday. Monday will showcase the top teams in a bracketed competition. The finals are scheduled for 4pm.


On Saturday, legendary coach, Olympic Gold Medalist and 2x NCAA Champion Dan Gable will be in attendance signing autographs. Gable, the past head coach of Iowa, led the Hawkeyes to 15 NCAA Titles and a 355-21-5 career team record under his helm. Gable coached 45 National Champions and 152 All Americans. As a competitor, Gable was the 1972 Olympic Gold Medalist, World Champion, and a 3x NCAA All American with a college record of 182-1.


The NHSCA National Wrestling Duals will features elite teams and wrestlers from over 38 states including wrestling powerhouses Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, California, and Illinois.


In the high school division, the top 4 teams from the 2017 event are back including the champions, Team Kong United. Last year’s Runner up, Young Guns Black is one of the teams that will be in the team hunt as well as third and fourth place finishers CFWA/South Florida Lightning and Team Shutt. Other teams to watch this year include Team Shutt Nation, Scorpions Reunion, and Bison Legend.


The reigning Middle School team champions, Buxton Red Beards, are back and ready to defend their title. The top teams from last year’s tournament including NJ Scorpions, Buxton Extreme, Illinois Outsiders and Young Guns Blue will look to claim the 2018 Middle School team title.  


In the Elementary division, the NJ Scorpions are looking for another title. The other top teams looking to take the stop spot include Buxton Extreme, Ohio Titans, Team Bro, Young Guns, and Dynamite USA.


Year in and year out, many of the nation’s elite wrestlers compete in this event. This year’s event is no different with top notch wrestlers from all over the nation ready to battle. The schedule and pools will be available on next Wednesday. Results will also be posted online. This event will be livestreamed by Flowrestling.
