The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) is pleased to announce Drew Kibler of Carmel High School in Carmel, Indiana as the 2017-2018 NHSCA National High School Senior Boys’ Swimming Athlete of the Year.

Kibler closed out his scholastic career by leading Carmel to a fourth straight state championship and a national championship. Kibler captured two individual gold medals at the state championship in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard fly. He also won two golds as a part of the school’s 200 and 400-yard relay teams.

In the state preliminary round, Kibler set a national record in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 19.38 seconds.  Kibler, who has accepted a scholarship to the University of Texas, is also a member of the U.S. National Team.  He won four gold medals at the U.S. Winter National Championships in December 2017.

“Drew is an excellent example what this award stands for,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA.  “Drew has excelled in the pool and in the classroom.  We congratulate him on an outstanding high school career and wish him good luck in college.”

Kibler is the third swimmer from Indiana to win the NHSCA National Boys’ Swimming Athlete of the Year Award.  Kyle Whitaker of Chesterton High won the award in 2010, while Matt McDonald of Hamilton Southeastern High School in 2001.  Both of them are enshrined in the Indiana High School Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame.

This the 19th year straight year the NHSCA is honoring achievers in the high school athletic community nationwide with its Athlete of the Year Award in 20 boys’ and girls’ sports.  Other winners will be announced throughout the rest of the 2017-2018 school year.

Each one of the honorees will receive a beautiful trophy, plus they will be honored in the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Digital Museum that the NHSCA is currently designing.
