The NHSCA's 1st Annual High School Talent Search was a smashing success! Twelve talented young performers from all over the country were flown into Norfolk, VA for an all-expense paid, 5 day adventure. These twelve sent in their audition tapes, and were chosen out of many ~ throughout this event, they proved that they deserved to be there.

The Talent Search 2005 performances were critiqued by a noteworthy panel of judges. Representing the NHSCA, was Joe Boardwine, Associate Executive Director of the NHSCA and the Director of the Talent Search 2005. Joe has been involved with music his whole life ~ singing, playing several instruments, and being a member of different bands. In 2003, he cut a CD with the Christian Rock group Know Peace. The NHSCA was pleased to work with two critically acclaimed composers, Leonid Ostrovsky and Dennis Mavashev. Their experience and professionalism shone through their critiques. Lisa Ryan completed our panel of judges. She toured with the Toledo Opera for 3 years, and has a degree in music. All four of our judges did a great job of giving honest but gentle, constructive critiques. All of our contestants received helpful tips and advice to help them grow as performers.

The Talent Search 2005 consisted of five rounds of competition, with eliminations following each round. It was very difficult each round for our judges to eliminate anyone. Again though, the character of the contestants shone through. After each elimination, all twelve participants supported each other and encouraged each other. This was truly a good-spirited event, full of camaraderie and good fun.

As the competition wound down, we were left with four final contestants in the last round on Wednesday. What a difficult decision this was for our judges! After much deliberation, Martina Wilson and Tim Hanson were named the Talent Search 2005 female and male champions. Then NHSCA was thrilled to offer them a professional recording opportunity and contract with NHSCA Productions.

It was an exciting event! Congratulations again to all twelve contestants! Thank you again to all of you who partnered with us to make this a success.
