Wrestling With Diabetes

Tano Miell, a senior at Pueblo South High School, has type 1 diabetes. He has to take 4 insulin shot daily. Tano was diagnosed at the age of 11 and has wrestled for the past 6 years. This year Tano won the COLORADO STATE HIGH SCHOOL 171 LB CLASS 4A State championship. He also set 3 high school records with the most pins (25), most wins (40), and the most team points (215).

Most people know how tough it is to wrestle as a young healthy individual but this was very hard on Tano. His daily workout and matches makes it very difficult to maintain a balanced sugar level that we all take for granted. Tano has to check his blood 8 or more times daily while competing, and adjust his insulin accordingly. Tano had to battle through his diabetes, (and will continue to do so the rest of his life) as he finished his high school career with style. Tano beat a undefeated wrestler for the state championship match, Tano helped his team win the class 4A team title as well.

Tano should be acknowledged for his outstanding wrestling accomplishment by overcoming his diabetes and setting an example for all diabetics to achieve their goals.
