Star Studded Event Heads to Va Beach

The NHSCA, National High School Coaches Association, is pleased to announce the 29th Annual High School Nationals will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The event will take place Friday, March 23 through Sunday, March 25, 2018. The 29th Annual NHSCA High School Nationals feature five divisions of competition: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Middle School on 40 mats under one roof.

 

This is the crown jewel of high school wrestling. Past Champions include Olympic Gold Medalists Cael Sanderson, Jordan Burroughs, Jake Varner and 2018 NCAA finalists Zain Retherford, Bryce Meredith and Jared Haught.

 

The 29th Annual High School Nationals will showcase many elite wrestlers from around the nation. At the 2017 National Championships a record breaking 4,013 wrestlers participated in the momentous event. This year is another amazing turnout with 4,430 wrestlers from 49 states and Germany competing. More than 1,200 high school and college coaches as well as over 5,000 spectators will be attending the event.

New this year is the Defense Soap Champ vs. Champ that will take place after the finals on Sunday. Champions from the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior Nationals will battle it out to become the Defense Soap Champion. This event is FREE to the public.

The 2018 Senior Nationals have 840 entries from 47 states and Germany. There are 395 State Champions: 8 4x State Champions, 29 3x State Champions, 73 2x State Champions, 130 1x State Champions. There are also 647 State Placewinners.

The 2018 Junior Nationals have 1297 entries from 47 states and Germany. There are 358 State Champions: 33 3x State Champions, 63 2x State Champions, 133 1x State Champions. There are also 670 State Placewinners.

The 2018 Sophomore Nationals have 1,018 entries from 47 states and Germany. There are 160 State Champions: 34 2x State Champions and 92 1x State Champions. There are also 418 State Placewinners.

The 2018 Freshman Nationals have 775 entries from 45 states and Germany. There are over 47 State Champions. There are also more than 223 State Placewinners.

Top wrestlers from around the country will be in attendance including Senior #1 Aaron Brooks, #1 Senior Joseph Silva, and #3 Jacori Teemer.

The 2018 NHSCA High School Nationals will offer free clinics throughout the event by top college coaches including Virginia Tech Head Coach Tony Robe, Adam Hall – Assistant Coach at North Carolina State, Arizona State Head Assistant Lee Pritts, Wartburg Assistant Chris Ortner, ODU Assistant Daryl Thomas, ‘Mean’ Gene Mills of Pin2Win and Charlie Heard, our NHSCA Orphan Coach. There will also be a Navy SEAL demonstration throughout the event. A College Recruiting Fair will be held Saturday, March 24th from 6-8pm in the lobby of the VBCC.

 

Also new to the event is the NHSCA Fan Expo. Upstairs at the Convention Center will feature clinics, Navy SEAL demonstrations, a viewing theater and a lounge space for fans and wrestlers to get off the floor. This will be another free attraction!
