The National High School Coaches Association (“NHSCA”) is proud to announce Juris Green, head coach at The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas as its National High School Boys’ Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Green led the school to its second overall state championship in the spring, the first for the school since 1999.  Green’s father was the head coach of the first state championship team.  This year’s team won the title with 60 points, which was four more than second place George Ranch.

This year’s championship was won on the strength of nine athletes who qualified for the UIL state championships.  Green’s athletes won four gold medals and one silver, plus the 4X200 relay team also captured gold.

Green is also the head coach of the school’s cross-country program that won the state’s 6A state title in the fall. It’s the first time that the same school has won cross country and track and field titles in the same year.

“We are extremely pleased to honor Coach Green as National Boys’ Track and Field Coach of the Year,” said Eric Hess, Executive Director of the NHSCA. “Coach Green’s commitment to excellence for his student-athletes in sports and in the classroom makes him an great choice for this honor.”

Coach Rossow is the first coach from Texas to win the NHSCA National Boys’ Track and Field Coach of the Year Award.

Throughout 2017, the NHSCA is honoring high achievers in the high school coaching community by naming Coaches of the Year in a total of 20 boys’ and girls’ sports.  It’s the 18th straight year that the NHSCA has presented its National Coach of the Year Awards.

Each one of the honorees will receive a beautiful trophy, plus they will be honored in the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum that the NHSCA will be building in the near future.
