The 28th Annual NHSCA, National High School Coaches Association, High School Nationals were held this past weekend at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Wrestling kicked off Friday, March 24th and concluded Sunday, March 26th. The 28th Annual NHSCA High School Nationals feature five divisions of competition: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior and Middle School on 40 mats under one roof.

The 28th Annual High School Nationals showcased many elite wrestlers from around the nation and broke the previous record with 4,013 wrestlers from 48 states and Germany competing on 40 mats. More than 1200 high school and college coaches as well as over 5000 spectators were in attendance.

The 2017 Junior Nationals had outstanding 1197 wrestlers compete from 47 states and Germany. There were 330 State Champions: 22 3x State Champions, 53 2x State Champions, 158 1x State Champions. There were also 653 State Placewinners. This is the largest Juniors field ever.

Brooks, who is ranked No. 15 at 160 by InterMat, beat Robert Patrick of Ligonier Valley in Pennsylvania 7-3 in the 152-pound final.

Silva, who finished 54-1 during the 2016-17 high school season, was one of two Junior National champs for Lake Highland, which finished No. 4 in the 2016-17 NHSCA/USA TODAY Super 25 high school wrestling rankings.  Erick Byelick captured the 160-pound title with a 3-1 overtime win over Billy Higgins of Skutt Catholic in Nebraska.
