The NHSCA Announces the 2015-2016 Academic All Americans

The National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) is proud to announce the 2016 High School Academic All Americans for the 2015-2016 school year.  This year marks the 23rd year in which the NHSCA has honored those who triumph both in and out of the classroom.

This year’s selection totals 138 Academic All Americans.  These student athletes hail from 30 states.  This year’s honorees excel in 13 different sports.  The total breakdown is as follows:  12 freshman, 21 sophomores, 47 juniors and 58 seniors.   “This year’s Academic All Americans are the epitome of what a student-athlete is.  Not only do they excel on the playing field, mat, court, pool, or track, but they also excel in the classroom”, stated NHSCA Executive Director Bobby Ferraro.  “These student-athletes are leaders in and out of the classroom and are the future leaders of tomorrow.  We are proud to deem them Academic All Americans.”

This year Virginia led the way with 20 Academic All Americans, followed by Connecticut with 17.  Massachusetts and Pennsylvania followed closely with 13 each.  The student-athletes averaged a 3.9 GPA, with 40 students coming in with a 4.0 or better. 

All honored Academic All Americans will be recognized in the National High School Sports Hall of Fame Museum, which is currently in the planning stage.

The following is a listing of the NHSCA’s 2016 Academic All American Team, listed alphabetically by graduating class.

 

Class of 2019

Tyler Crew (Georgia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Camden County High School for Coach Jess Wilder.  He placed 4th in his wrestling state championships this year had had a 47-12 season record.  Tyler has a current GPA of 3.8 and is ranked #16 in his class of 670 students. 

Jack Darling (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Masconomet Regional High School for coach Todd Darling.  Jack was the 2016 state wrestling champion at 106 lbs.  He had a season record of 55-5.  Jack currently has a 3.7 GPA.

Levi Farris (Alaska) competes in the sport of wrestling at MatSu Career Tech for Coach Trent Farris.  He placed 4th in his Alaska state wrestling championships this year at 145 lbs.  Levi has a 34-8 season record. He is also ranked #1 in his class and has a 4.0 GPA.  He hopes to attend the US Naval Academy for his college career.

Nick Florshutz (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  Nick finished 2nd in the National Prep tournament this year and had a season record of 33-7.  He has a current GPA of 3.8 and is currently ranked #11 in his class. 

Kekana Fouret (Idaho) competes in the sport of wrestling for Coach Todd Cady at Columbia High School.  He placed 5th in his state wrestling championships this year and had a season record of 25-17.  Kekana has a 3.4 GPA and is ranked in the top third of his class. 

Asa Garcia (Indiana) competes in the sport of wrestling at Avon High School for coach Israel Blevins.  Asa was a 2016 state wrestling champion and had a 36-6 season record.  He has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked #248 out of 806 students in his class. 

Ryan Garlitz (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at St. John’s Preparatory High School for coach Manny Costa.  He placed 3rd in his state wrestling championships this year and had a 56-7 season record.  Ryan currently has a GPA of 3.9.

Henry Hague (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  Henry finished 2nd in the National Prep tournament this year and had a season record of 36-9.  His current GPA is 3.8 with a class ranking of #13. 

Shane Hanson-Ashworth ( Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  He was a National Prep Champion this year in the 106 lb. weight class and had a 42-7 season record.  His current GPA is a 4.0 and his class ranking is #9.

Kathryn Lyons (California) competes in the sport of water polo at Miramonte High School for coach Noel Murphy.  Her team placed 1st in the North Coast Section of her State Championships.  Kathryn has a 4.0 GPA and is in the top 5% of her class.  She plans to play Division 1 water polo in college. 

 

Sean McCormick (Nevada) competes in the sport of wrestling at Churchill County High School for coach Trevor DeBraga.  He was a Nevada state champion in his sport of wrestling and had a season record of 41-4.  Sean has a current GPA of 3.7 and is ranked #40 in his class.  He plans to major in Pre-med in college. 

Joey Perkins (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Masconomet High School for coach Todd Darling.  He placed 7th in his state championship this year and had a 40-13 season record at 170 lbs.  Joey has a current GPA of 3.95. 

 

Class of 2018

Zach Alexander (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at St. John’s Preparatory High School for coach Manny Costa.  Zach placed 5th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a season record of 49-11.  He currently has a 4.2 GPA. 

Michael Beard (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep School for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  Michael placed 2nd in his National Prep tournament his freshman year and was the National Prep Champion this year.  He had a 2016 season record of 46-3 and has a current career record of 126-14.  Michael has a 3.6 GPA and is currently ranked #15 in his class.

Mason Berges (Arizona) competes in the sport of basketball at Blue Ridge High School for coach Darryl Suber.  He was named 2nd Team All Section and Honorable Mention All State at his position of Guard this year.  Mason has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #3 in his class of 196 students.

Nate Clements (Idaho) competes in the sport of wrestling at Columbia High School for coach Todd Cady.  Nate is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 6th as a freshman and 2nd this year.  He had a 49-6 2016 season record with a current career record of 93-16.  Nate has a current GPA of 3.5 and is ranked #81 in his class of 344 students. 

PJ Crane (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  He placed 2nd in the 2016 National Prep Championships and had a season record of 45-12.  PJ has a current GPA of 4.0 and is ranked #8 in his class.

 

Andrew Esses (Texas) competes in the sport of tennis at Memorial High School for coach Budd Booth. He finished in the top 8 in his state competition.  Andre has a 3.9 GPA.

Derek Giallombardo (Michigan) competes in the sport of wrestling at Gaylord High School for coach Jerry Lajoie.  He placed 4th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a season record of 56-6.  Derek has a current GPA of 3.55 and is ranked #86 in his class of 242 students.

Kade Grigsby (Idaho) competes in the sport of wrestling at Columbia High School for coach Todd Cady.  Kade placed 2nd in his 2016 state wrestling championships and 6th as a freshman.   He had a season record of 48-10 with a current career record of 97-17.  Kade has a 3. 5 GPA and is ranked #63 in his class of 344 students. 

Christian Hernandez (Texas) competes in the sport of wrestling at Bel Air High School for coach Alex Carrillo.  He placed 2nd in his state wrestling championships this year.  Christian had a season record of 30-4.  He has a 3.5 GPA and ranks #63 in his class of 518 students.  He hopes to attend Stanford or Yale to major in pre-med. 

Chris Hisey (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  Chris is a two-time state placewinner in his national prep tournament, finishing 4th as a freshman and 6th as a sophomore.  He has a current career record of 110-29.  He has a current GPA of 3.9 and is ranked #3 in his class. 

Jude Lloyd (North Carolina) competes in the sport of wrestling at Elkin High School for coach Perry Lloyd.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a freshman and 3rd as a sophomore.  Jude had a season record of 39-7 and has a current career record of 67-12.  He has a current GPA of 3.9

Ryan Luth (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Foran High School for coach David Esposito.  He was a state champion in 2015 and placed 2nd in 2016.  He had a 2016 season record of 55-4 with a current career record of 110-11.  Ryan has a current GPA of 4.0.

Matt Mitchler (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Mountain View High School for coach Frank DeBerry.  He place 5th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a season record of 50-9.  Matt has a current GPA of 3.5 and is ranked #30 in his class.

TJ Philpotts (New York) competes in the sport of wrestling at Sauquoit Valley High School for coach John Richard.  He placed 5th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a season record of 36-6.  He has a current career record of 135-23.  TJ also competed on a cross country team that finished 3rd in the New York state tournament.  He has a current GPA of 3.9 and is ranked #3 in his class of 270 students.   

Charles Rieth (Arkansas) competes in the sport of swimming at Conway High School for coach Christina Rye.  Charles had three all state finishes in 2016.  He placed 2nd in the 200 IM relay and 1st in both the 200 free and 500 free.  He has a current GPA of 4.0 and is ranked #4 in his class of 684 students. 

Tanner Thornton (Tennessee) competes in the sport of wrestling at Grace Christian Academy for coach Ron Comfort.  He placed 6th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a 49-12 season record.  His current career record is 115-32.  Tanner has a current GPA of 3.5.  He would like to major in Chemical Engineering in college. 

Christopher Vasquez (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Mountain View High School for coach Frank DeBerry.  He placed 6th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a season record of 20-7.  Christopher has a current GPA of 3.4 and is ranked #36 in his class. 

Shaun Wagner (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Southington High School for coach Derek Dion.  He finished 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a season record of 37-13.  He has a current career record of 64-20.  Shaun has a current GPA of 4.0 and is ranked #21 in his class.

Cole Wyman (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Brockton High School for coach Naziold Islamaj.  Cole finished as the 2016 state champion and also placed 5th as a freshman.  He had a season record of 48-3 with a current career record of 98-13.  He also finished 2nd in the New England Wrestling Championships this year.  Cole has a current GPA of 4.5 and is ranked #11 in his class of 1102 students.   

Colt Yinger (Ohio) competes in the sport of wrestling at Nelsonville-York High School for coach Matt Yinger.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a 52-3 season record.  He has a current career record of 99-10.   Colt has a current GPA of 3.5 and is ranked #16 in his class.

Artur David Zigman (Texas) competes in the sport of tennis at Memorial High School for coach Budd Booth.  He was a two-time state finalist, placing third this year.  Artur had a 21-1 season record for 2016.  He has a 3.85 GPA.   

  

Class of 2017

Austin Abacherli (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Southington High School for coach Derek Dion.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 4th in 2014 and 3rd in the 2015 state wrestling championships. This year he was the state runner-up.    He had a 2016 season record of 36-11 with a current career record of 95-29.  Austin has a current GPA of 3.5.

Jack Anderson (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Danvers High School for coach Mark Deciccio.  Jack is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 8th as a freshman, 6th as a sophomore, and 7th this year as a junior.  He had a 40-10 season record this year and has a current career record of 120-30.  Jack has a current GPA of 3.6.

Andrew Berreyesa (Nevada) competes in the sport of wrestling at Reno High School for coach Phil Timmins.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a freshman, 1st as a sophomore, and 2nd as a junior.  Andrew had a 52-3 season record this year and has a current career record of 154-11.  He has a 3.97 GPA and is ranked #14 in his class of 384 students. 

Lucas Briggs (Florida) competes in two sports at Maclay High School for coaches Andy Warner and Drew Sherrod.  He plays Center Midfield in soccer and Short Stop in baseball.  Lucas was named to an All State Team in soccer this year.  He scored 19 goals this season.  He currently has a 3.7 GPA and is in the top 15% of his class.

Anthony Brito (North Carolina) competes in the sport of wrestling at Heritage High School for coach Thomas Durham.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 6th as a freshman, 5th as a sophomore, and 1st as a junior.  Anthony had a 51-2 season record this year and has a current career record of 136-13.  He has a 4.35 GPA and is ranked #55 in his class of 409 students.   

Drew Cozzolino (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Algonquin Regional High School for coach James Gray.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 6th as a sophomore and 4th as a junior.  Drew had a season record of 46-10 and has a current career record of 111-32.  He has a current GPA of 3.9 and is ranked #14 in his class.  He plans to study Engineering in college.

Bryce Crew (Georgia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Camden County High School for coach Jess Wilder.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd as a freshman and 2nd as a sophomore.  Bryce qualified for the state championships this year but was unable to compete due to an injury.  He had a 2016 season record of 43-7 and has a current career record of 212-31.  Bryce has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #3 in his class of 602 students.  He plans to study pre-med in college.

Jayce Cunha (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Ironwood Ridge High School for coach Tim Berrier.  He placed 4th in his state wrestling championships in 2015 and 2016.  Jayce has a current GPA of 3.7 and is ranked #95 in his class of 448 students. 

Jake DuVall (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lord Botetourt High School for coach Chuck Burton.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jake had a 42-8 season record this year and has a current career record of 121-37.  His current GPA is 4.1 and his class rank is #14 out of 232 students.  Jake plans to pursue a degree in business management upon graduation.

Laurin Ebert (Minnesota) competes in the sport of swimming at Big Lake High School for coach Mary Walsh.  She competes in freestyle and the IM.  Laurin placed 6th in the 200 freestyle relay in her state swimming championships this year.  She currently has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #2 in her class.  Laurin would like to stydy biology or chemistry in college and continue to compete in swimming.

Kyle Elliott (West Virginia) competes in the sports of wrestling and football at North Marion High School for coaches Rusty Elliott and Dave Tennant.  He is a two-time state placewinner in the sport of wrestling, placing 6th as a freshman and 3rd as a sophomore.  Kyle had a 2016 season record of 41-9 and a current career record of 132-39. He has a 4.0 GPA and is currently ranked #14 in his class.  He plans to study Aerospace Engineering in college.

Gino Esposito (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Foran High School for coach David Esposito.  He finished 2nd in his state championships in 2015 and was the state champion this year.  He had a season record of 53-7 this year and has a current career record of 134-24.  Gino is ranked #1 in his class of 220 students.

Ryan Farber (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Northern Lehigh High School for coach Stephen Hluschak. He finshed 6th in his state wrestling championships this year as a junior.  Ryan had a season record this year of 34-5 and has a current career record of 98-24.  He currently has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #15 in his class. 

Thomas Fargen (Wyoming) competes in the sport of wrestling at Glenrock High School for coach Nicolas Dillon.  He placed 6th in his state wrestling championships this year.  Thomas had a season record this year of 42-15 and has a career record so far of 100-30.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked #13 in his class of 49 students. 

Brian Gola (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep School for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 4th as a sophomore and 5th as a junior in his prep state championships.  Brian has a current GPA of 3.7 and is ranked #11 in his class.

Shea Golden (North Carolina) competes in the sport of volleyball at Chapel Hill High School for coach Jody Brown.  Her team made the Final 4 in Volleyball in 2014 and the same year her soccer team won the 3A state championships.  Shea currently has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #38 in her class.  She plans to compete in volleyball in college where she would like to major in pre-med.

Bayne Gordon (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Clarke County High School for coach Carter Gordon.  Bayne is a three-time state champion in his sport.  He has a current career record of 162-20.  Bayne has a current GPA of 4.0 and is ranked #15 in his class. 

Robert Haan (Alaska) competes in the sport of wrestling at Colony High School for coach Todd Hopkins.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd as a freshman, 3rd as a sophomore, and won the state title as a junior.  Robert had a 39-2 season record this year and has a current career record of 110-20.  He has a 3.97 GPA and is ranked #15 in his class of 220 students.  He would like to pursue a degree in engineering.

Tristan Haviland (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Trumbull High School for coach Niko Filippakis.  He was a New England Champion at 113 lbs. this year.  Tristan had a 2016 season record of 40-5.  He currently has a 3.5 GPA.

Quentin Hovis (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Seton Catholic Prep High School for coach Eric Larkin.  He is a three-time Arizona state wrestling champion.  Quentin had a 2016 season record of 45-2 and has a current career record of 128-6.  He has a 3.4 GPA and hopes to attend the US Naval Academy upon graduation. 

Seth Hyatt (Alabama) competes in the sport of wrestling at Arab High School for coach Britt Shaw.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd in 2015 and 2nd in 2016.  Seth had a 2016 season record of 64-6 and has a current career record of 173-18.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked #72 in his class of 200 students.  He would like to study Broadcast Journalism in college.

Seth Janney (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep School for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  He finished 2nd in his state prep tournament in 2015 and this year won the title.  Seth has a 2016 season record of 39-6 and a current career record of 113-17.  He has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #13 in his class. 

Colby Johnson (Kansas) competes in the sport of wrestling at Burlington High School for coach Doug Vander Linden.  Colby is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 5th as a freshman, 3rd as a sophomore and taking the title at 138 lbs. this year.  He had a season record this year of 45-0 and has a current career record of 134-6.  Colby has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #7 in his class of 63 students.  He plans to pursue a career in the Health Care field.

John Kelbly (Ohio) competes in the sport of wrestling at Smithville High School for coach Michael Wenger.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 8th as a freshman and 5th this year as a junior.  John had a 56-4 2016 season record and has a current career record of 106-16.  He currently has a 3.8 GPA and is ranked #21 in his class.  He plans to study civil engineering in college.

Dylan Kemp (Oklahoma) competes in the sport of swimming at Guymon High School for coach Hope Kemp.  Dylan is a three-time state placewinner in the state championships, placing 9th as a freshman, 4th as a sophomore, and 2nd this year as a junior.  He has a 4.5H GPA and is ranked #2 in his class of 185 students.  His goal is to attend a Division 1 university on a swimming scholarship.

Brandon Kipper (Idaho) competes in the sport of wrestling at Columbia High School for coach Todd Cady.  He is a two-time state placewinner in his state wrestling championships, finishing 3rd in 2015 and winning the title this year as a junior.  Brandon had a 2016 season record of 37-5 with a current career record of 53-10.  His GPA is 3.4 and he is ranked #97 in his class of 329 students.

Patrick Klass (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Ironwood Ridge High School for coach Tim Berrier.  He placed 4th in his 2014 and 2016 state wrestling championships.  Patrick had a 2016 season record of 22-8 and has a current career record of 57-18.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #11 in his class of 448 students.

Chase Krivickas (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lexington Christian Academy.  He placed 4th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a 33-3 season record this year.  His current career record is 72-15.  Chase has a 4.79 GPA and is ranked #1 in his class of 60 students.  He would like to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. 

Dominic LaJoie (Michigan) competes in the sport of wrestling at Gaylord High School for coach Jerry LaJoie.  He is a two-time state champion, finishing 1st his freshman and sophomore years.  He was the runner-up this year.  He had a 2016 season record of 61-1 and has a current career record of 148-6.  Dominic has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #2 in his class of 250 students. 

Gunnar Larson (Indiana) competes in the sport of wrestling at Avon High School for coach Israel Blevins.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 5th as a sophomore and 2nd as a junior.  Gunnar had a 42-1 season record this year and has a current career record of 112-13.  His current GPA is 4.27 and he is ranked #91 in his class of 694 students. 

Jacob Mansman (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Ironwood Ridge High School for coach Tim Berrier.   He placed 4th in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jacob has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked #152 in his class of 448 students. 

Garrison Mayo (Virginia) competes in the sport of football at Lord Botetourt High School for coach Jamie Harless.  He was named First Team All -State this year.  Garrison has a 3.87 GPA and is ranked #52 in his class of 232 students. 

Michael Mirmina (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Trumbull High School for coach Niko Filippakis.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 5th as a sophomore and 4th as a junior.  He had a 36-10 season record this year.  Michael has a current GPA of 3.6.

Tyler Phares (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Mountain View High School for coach Frank DeBerry.  He placed 6th in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Tyler had a 2016 season record of 42-14 and currently has a 90-35 career record.  He has a 3.7 GPA.  He plans to attend West Virginia University. 

Brooke Powers (Connecticut) competes in the sport of Girls’ Basketball at Greenwich Academy for coach Wes Matthews.  She is a two-time selection to the All New England Prep All Star team.  Brooke has a 3.7 GPA.

Hunter Reed (Florida) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lakewood Ranch High School for coach Kraig Reed.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a freshman and 3rd as a sophomore.  He had a 62-0 season record this year and has a current career record of 172-9.  Hunter has a 3.54 GPA and is ranked #111 in his class of 594 students.  He would like to pursue a career in either engineering or marine science.

Jackson Eric Reynolds (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lord Botetourt High School for coach Chuck Burton.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jackson had a season record of 33-13 this year.  He has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #45 in his class of 232 students.  He would like to pursue a career in either English or Film. 

Hunter Richard (New York) competes in the sport of wrestling at Holland Patent High School for coach John Richard.  He is a two-time state champion, winning the title in both 2015 and 2016.  He also placed 3rd as a freshman.  He had a 47-3 season record this year and has a current career record of 218-26.  Hunter has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #3 in his class of 130 students.  He would like to study law in college. 

Grant Sarra (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Plainville High School for coach Harvey Spence.  He placed 6th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a 31-10 season record.  Grant has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #2 in his class of 170 students.  He would like to major in pre-med in college. 

Jordan Scott (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Camp Henry Collegiate High School for coach Jack Effner. He placed 8th in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jordan has a current GPA of 3.98.

Jasper Stone (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Simsbury High School for coach TJ Silva.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jasper had a 2016 season record of 36-6 and has a current career record of 49-15.  He has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #85 in his class of 374 students.

John Thomas Turner V (Virginia) competes in the sports of wrestling and football at Lord Botetourt High School for coach Chuck Burton in wrestling and Jamie Harless in football.  He is a two-time state placewinner in wrestling, finishing 3rd as a sophomore and winning the title this year.  He was also named 1st Team 3A All State as an Offensive Tackle in football.  J.T. has a season record in wrestling of 27-7 this year and a current career record of 91-32.  He has a 4.2 GPA and is ranked #12 in his class of 232 students. 

Zachary Van Alst (Alabama) competes in the sport of wrestling at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School for coaches Coy Hunter and Rod Gaddy.  He is a three-time state champion.  His 2016 season record was 50-1 and he has a current career record of 233-12.  Zachary has a 3.8 GPA and is ranked #15 in his class.  He hopes to attend either Brown University or the US Naval Academy upon graduation.

Conner Widener (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Chilhowie High School for coach Hunter Wayne Trivette.  Conner placed 4th in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  He had a season record this year of 35-11 and has a current career record of 75-32.  Conner has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #15 in his class. 

Connor Williams (Wisconsin) competes in the sport of wrestling at LaCrosse Central High School for coach Ryan Costello.  He placed 5th in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Connor had a 2016 season record of 45-3 and has a current career record of 128-18.  He has a 3.7 GPA and is ranked #23 in his class.  He hopes to wrestle in college and obtain a medical degree.

Ronnie Williams Jr (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Mountain View High School for coach Frank DeBerry.  Ronnie placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  He had a 42-11 season record this year and has a current career record of 94-26.  Ronnie has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked #28 in his class.  He hopes to attend the US Naval Academy upon graduation.

Ethan Young (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lord Botetourt High School for coach Chuck Burton.  He placed 4th in his 2015 state wrestling championships.  He had a 2016 season record of 30-7 and has a current career record of 90-32.  Ethan has a 4.3 GPA and is ranked #9 in his class of 232 students.  He would like to pursue a career in marine biology. 

 

Class of 2016

Benjamin Anderson (Utah) competes in the sport of wrestling at Pleasant Grove High School for coach Brock Moore.  He is a four-time state champion.  Benjamin had a 51-5 season record this year.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #12 in his class of 646 students.  Benjamin will attend Duke University to further his education and will also compete in wrestling.

Alec Arnold (Wyoming) competes in the sport of wrestling at Glenrock High School for coach Nicolas Dillon.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Alec had a 30-14 season record this year and has a career record of 100-30.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked #20 in his class of 70 students.  He will attend Casper College.

Nick Barr (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Chilhowie High School for coach Hunter Trivette.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Nick had a 37-12 season record this year and has a career record of 98-42.  He has a 3.7 GPA.  Nick will attend the University of Virginia. 

McKay Berges (Arizona) competes in the sport of basketball at Blue Ridge High School for coach Darryl Suber.  He was named Second Team All State in both his junior and senior year.  McKay has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #5 in his class of 193 students.  He will attend Brigham Young University after a LDS mission to the Phillipines.

Jeremy Berson (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Ironwood Ridge High School for coach Tim Berrier.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a junior and winning the state title this year.  Jeremy had a 34-5 season record this year and has a career record of 91-28.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #49 out of 449 students in his senior class. 

John Boyle (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Triton Regional for coach Shawn McElligott.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 6th as a freshman, 5th as a sophomore, and 1st as a senior.  John had a 49-4 season record this year and has a career record of 128-46.  He has a 3.7 GPA and is ranked #54 in his class of 163 students. John is hoping to attend a military academy upon graduation. 

Nathan Bruner (Texas) competes in the sport of swimming at Byron Steele High School for coach Angie Fain.  He placed 8th in the 100 Breast at his 2016 state swimming championships.  Nathan was named 1st Team All State in 100 Breast and received honorable mention in the 200 IM.  He has a 4.0 GPA and will attend Fresno Pacific University where he will compete in swimming. 

Lathan Bumgarner (North Carolina) competes in the sport of wrestling at North Gaston High School for coach Chase Gamble.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a junior and 1st as a senior.  Lathan had a 62-5 season record this year.  He has a 3.8 GPA and is in the top 10% of his class. 

Jay Carnevale (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at St. John’s Preparatory High School for coach Manny Costa.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 7th as a junior and 1st as a senior.  Jay had a 66-2 season record this year and has a career record of 158-17.  He has a 4.57 GPA and is headed to Brown University in the fall.

Nick Cater (Alabama) competes in the sport of wrestling at Arab High School for coach Britt Shaw.  He was a three-time state champion, winning the title in his freshman, sophomore, and senior year.  He placed 3rd in his junior year.  Nick had a 71-3 season record this year and had a career record of 314-21.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked #81 in his class of 192 students.  He plans to study nursing in college upon graduation.

Madelyn Clevinger (Virginia) competes in the sport of soccer at Jamestown High School for coach Kevin Dawson.  She was named All State her junior year.  She plays the position of Defender.  Madelyn has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #8 in her class of 285 students.  She will attend the University of Virginia and major in Kinesiology. 

Alan Clothier (Kansas) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lawrence High School for coach Patrick Naughton.  He is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd as a freshman, 1st as a sophomore, 3rd as a junior and 1st as a senior.  Alan had a 34-2 season record this year and has a career record of 150-8.  He has a 3.46 GPA and is ranked 100 in his class of 360 students.  He will attend Appalachian State University.

Matthew Conte (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Westhill High School for coach Thomas Pereira.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 4th in his junior year and 6th this year.  Matthew had a 28-6 season record this year and a career record of 139-35.  He has a 3.7 GPA and is ranked #19 in his class of 574 students.  He will attend American University where he will also continue his wrestling career.

Caleb Corbett (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Hickory High School for coach Ben Summerlin.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 8th as a junior and 3rd as a senior.  He had a 2016 season record of 38-5 and has a career record of 106-27.  Caleb has a 3.7 GPA and will attend Hampden Sydney College in the fall.

Hunter Costa (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at St. John’s Preparatory High School for coach Manny Costa.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a sophomore and junior and 1st as a senior.  He had a 61-3 season record this year and has a career record of 206-29.  Hunter has a 4.29 GPA and is headed to Davidson College in North Carolina.

Nicholas Cyr (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Plainville High School for coach Harvey Spence.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Nicholas had a season record of 33-10 this year and has a career record of 58-22.  He has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #19 in his class of 180 students.  He will attend Central Connecticut State University to study nursing.

Matteo DeVincenzo (New York) competes in the sport of wrestling at Port Jefferson High School for coach Michael Maletta.  He is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a freshman, 1st as a sophomore, 3rd as a junior and once again winning the title his senior year.  Matteo had a 36-0 season record this year and has a career record of 148-4.  He has a 4.0 GPA and will attend Princeton University. 

Marco Dominguez (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Ironwood Ridge High School for coach Tim Berrier.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd as a freshman, 5th as a junior, and 2nd as a senior.  Marco has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #51 in his class of 449 students. 

Jake Drysdale (Missouri) competes in the sport of cross country at Saint Louis Priory School for coach Joseph Gleich.  He received All State Honors his senior year.  Jake has a 4.0 GPA and will attend Notre Dame University to study chemistry, nanotechnology and renewable energy innovation.

Nicholas Duca (New Jersey) competes in the sport of wrestling at Paulsboro High School for coach Paul Morina.  He placed 2nd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Nicholas had a season record this year of 34-6 and has a career record of 110-47.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #3 in his class of 81 students.  He will attend Rowan College at Gloucester County.

William Esrey (Kansas) competes in the sport of Golf at The Pembroke Hill School for coach Evan Scobie.  As a sophomore he finished 10th in his state championships and was named All State.  As a junior he finished 5th in his state championships and was named All State.  William has a 3.55 GPA.

Ian “Dane” Esses (Texas) competes in the sport of tennis at Memorial High School for coach Budd Booth.  He is one of the top 4 golfers in his state rankings.  Ian has a 3.4 GPA and will attend Pepperdine University.

Sam Gall (Minnesota) competes in the sport of fastpitch softball at Eastview High School for coach Trevor Monroe.  She received the Academic All-State award this year.  Sam is in the top 10% of her class and plans to pursue a degree in nursing.

Trevor Giallombardo (Michigan) competes in the sport of wrestling at Gaylord High School for coach Jerry Lajoie.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a junior and 5th as a senior.  He had a season record this year of 56-7 and has a career record of 141-25.  Trevor has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #33 in his class of 220 students.  He would like to study biomolecular engineering in college.

Jacob Godfrey (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Mountain View High School for coach Frank DeBerry.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jacob had a 49-11 season record this year and has a career record of 131-48.  He has a 3.5 GPA and will attend Virginia Tech University in the fall.

Daniel Gregorio (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at Masconomet High School for coach Todd Darling.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 4th as a junior and 3rd as a senior.  Daniel had a 2016 season record of 46-7 and a career record of 124-45.  He has a 3.76 GPA and is ranked #16 in his class of 368 students.  He plans to wrestle at Johns Hopkins University.

Chase Heit (Nevada) competes in the sport of wrestling at Reed High School for coach Michael Klapp.  He finished 2nd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Chase has a career record of 128-58.  He has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked #89 in his class of 487 students.

Noah Hubler (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Foran High School for coach David Esposito.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 4th as a junior and 2nd as a senior.  Noah had a 2016 season record of 47-6 and a career record of 102-42.  He has a 4.0 GPA.

Aiden Jarrett (Georgia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Greater Atlanta Christian School for coach Jeff Harsh.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 5th as a sophomore, 3rd as a junior and winning the title as a senior.  Aiden had a 30-1 season record this year.  He has a 3.5 GPA and will be attending Centre College in Kentucky where he will play football.

Spencer Jenkins (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of wrestling at St. John’s Preparatory High School for coach Manny Costa.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a 46-8 season record this year.  Spencer had a career record of 122-39.  He has a 3.9 GPA and will attend Connecticut College.

Devin Johnson (Georgia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Vidalia High School for coaches Dr. James Ferry, Bobby Blount, Steve Fullam and Chris Hamilton.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd as a sophomore, 4th as a junior and 3rd as a senior.  Devin had a season record this year of 46-5 and has a career record of 142-21.  He has a 3.4 GPA and is ranked #71 in his class of 172 students.

Kyle Johnson (Florida) competes in the sports of football and lacrosse for coaches Corky Rogers for football and Brian Silcott for lacrosse at the Bolles School.   He was named First Team All State in football in both his junior and senior year.  He was also names 1st Team All District in lacrosse both years.  Kyle has a 4.0 GPA and will play football at the US Air Force Academy where he will study computer science.

William Jones (North Carolina) competes in the sport of soccer at Asheville High School for coach Mike Flowe.  He was twice named All State, in both his junior and senior year.  This year he was also named All Mid-Atlantic.  William has a 3.9 GPA and will attend Emory University in the fall.

Nick Lattanze (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  Nick is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 1st as a freshman, 2nd as a sophomore, 1st as a junior and 2nd as a senior.  He had a 42-6 season record this year and has a career record of 166-19. Nick has a 3.8 GPA.  He will attend Brown University. 

Matt Lattanze (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  Matt is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 1st as a freshman, sophomore and junior.  He finished 2nd his senior year.  Matt had a 22-2 season record this year and has a career record of 142-17.  He has a 3.8 GPA and will attend Brown University.

Grant Leonard (Virginia) competes in the sport of football at Lord Botetourt High School for coaches Jamie Harless and Chuck Burton.  He was named First Team All -State Linebacker this year.  He has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked in the top ½ of his class of 276 students.  He will attend Virginia Tech University.

Zach Linton (Tennessee) competes in the sport of wrestling at Wilson Central High School for coaches John Kramer and Ken Hammonds.  He was the state champion this year at his weight class of 285 lbs. Zach had a season record this year of 65-1 and has a career record of 135-15.  He has a 3.6 GPA.

Rashon Lusane (Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  He finished 1st in his state wrestling championships as a junior and this year placed 2nd.  He had a 38-6 season record this year and has a career record of 159-39.  Rashon has a 3.4 GPA and will attend Morgan State where he will compete in football.

Bradley Lythgoe (Virginia) competes in the sport of football at Lord Botetourt High School for coaches Jamie Harless and Chuck Burton.  He was named First Team All State in both his junior and senior years.  Bradley has a 3.96 GPA and is ranked #65 in his class of 276 students.  He will attend Virginia Military Institute on a football scholarship where he will study engineering. 

Jailyn Marshall (Missouri) competes in the sport of Girls Golf at Blue Springs High School for coach Jill Courter.  She was named All State her senior year.  Jailyn has a 3.78 GPA and is ranked #158 in her class of 590 students.  She will attend William Jewell College where she received a golf scholarship.

Sean McKeon (Massachusetts) competes in the sport of football at Shepherd Hill Regional High School for Coach Christopher Lindstrom.  He plays the position of tight end and has received many honors. Among them is being named USA Today Massachusetts All State in 2014 and 2015 and ESPN Boston All State in 2014 and 2015.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #14 in his class of 253 students.  He will attend the University of Michigan on a football scholarship.

Hailey Monroe (Minnesota) competes in the sport of fastpitch softball at Eastview High School for coach Trevor Monroe.  She was awarded Academic All State in Tennis in 2015 and Academic All State in Fastpitch Softball in 2016.  She is in the top 10% of her class.  She will attend the College of St. Benedict to pursue a degree in nursing.  She will compete in softball as well.

Dante Montanaro (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Trumbull High School for coach Nicholas Montanaro.  He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing third his sophomore, junior and senior years.  Dante had a 30-8 season record this year and has a career record of 112-19.  He has a 4.0 GPA and will attend New York University Stern School of Business.  He will continue his wrestling career there also.

Nicholas Pacelli (New York) competes in the sport of Track and Field at Warwick Valley High School for coach Michael Potter.  His relay finished 2nd in the 4 x 800 relay in 2014, 5th in that same relay in 2015 and this year they won the state title in the 4 x 800.  Nicholas has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #15 in  his class of 340 students.  He will attend Bucknell University where he will major in Mathematics.

Keith Penney (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Simsbury High School for coach TJ Silva.  He is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 7th his freshman year and 2nd as a sophomore, junior and senior.  Keith had a season record this year of 32-7 and has a career record of 135-23.  He has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #83 in his class of 363 students.  He will attend Williams College where he will also further his wrestling career.

Lane Peters (Ohio) competes in the sport of wrestling at Claymont High School for coach Chett Peters.   He is a three-time state placewinner, finishing  6th as a sophomore, 5th as a junior  and 2nd as a senior.  Lane had a 18-4 season record this year and has a career record of 98-32.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked #32 in his class of 150 students.  He will attend the U S Military Academy at West Point.

Connor Sakmar (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Daniel Hand High School for coach Michael Docker.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 5th as a junior and 4th this year as a senior.  Connor had a 45-14 season record this year and a career record of 113-37.  He has a 4.19 GPA and plans to attend Harvard University where he will study Economics and compete in wrestling.  He was his class Valedictorian this year.

Aryn Sanders (Tennessee) competes in the sport of basketball at Signal Mountain High School for coach Kendra Bell.  She received All State honors in track and field in the 4 x 100 relay her freshman year. In her junior year she received All State honors in volleyball, basketball and track and field.  Aryn has a 3.8 GPA and is heading to the University of Alabama in Huntsville where she will further her basketball career.

Andrew Schmitt (Alabama) competes in the sport of wrestling at Arab High School for coach Britt Shaw.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 3rd as a sophomore and 1st as a senior.  Andrew had a 2016 season record of 60-7 and has a career record of 192-31.  He has a 3.5 GPA and is ranked #88 out of 192 students in his class. 

Kanen Storr (Michigan) competes in the sport of wrestling at Leslie High School for coach Todd Stern.  He is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 2nd as a sophomore, and winning the title as a freshman, junior and senior.  He had a 58-0 season record this year and has a career record of 227-3.  Kanen has a 3.75 GPA and is ranked #16 in his class of 90 students.  He will attend Iowa State University where he will major in kinesiology. 

Liam Sullivan (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Daniel Hand High School for coach Michael Docker.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 6th as a junior and 1st as a senior.  Liam had a 36-7 season record this year and has a career record of 101-39.  He has a 3.4 GPA and would like to study engineering in college.

Kyle Taylor (Arizona) competes in the sport of wrestling at Ironwood Ridge High School for coach Tim Berrier.  He is a four-time state placewinner, finishing 4th as a freshman, sophomore, and junior.  This year as a senior he finished 2nd.  Kyle had a 2016 season record of 37-6 and has a career record of 140-31.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #19 in his class of 449 students.  He plans to attend the U S Military Academy at West Point.

Skylar Trivette (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Marion Senior High School for coach Hunter Trivette.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 4th as a sophomore and 2nd as a senior.  Skylar had a 37-6 season record this year and has a career record of 140-31.  He has a 3.8 GPA and is headed to the U S Military Academy at West Point.

Ben Tuohey(Pennsylvania) competes in the sport of wrestling at Malvern Prep for coaches Nate Lautar and Nate Wachter.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 4th as a junior and 8th as a senior.  Ben had a 2016 season record of 40-5 and has a career record of 149-26.  He has a 3.8 GPA and is ranked #8 in his class. 

Nathan Vander Linden (Kansas) competes in the sport of wrestling at Burlington High School for coach Doug Vander Linden.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Nathan had a 2016 season record of 44-17 and has a career record of 129-54.  He has a 3.9 GPA and is ranked #11 in his class.

Aaron VanRavestein (Virginia) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lord Botetourt High School for coach Chuck Burton.  He placed 4th in his 2016 state wrestling championships and had a 42-8 season record this year.  Aaron had a career record of 146-50.  He has a 4.15 GPA and is ranked #28 in his class of 276 students.  He will attend Freed-Hardeman University where he will compete in soccer.  He will major in biology/pre-physical therapy. 

Skylar Whinery (Colorado) competes in the sport of lacrosse at Regis Jesuit High School for coach Jim Soran.  He was named All Region and Second Team All State this year as a senior.  Skylar has a 3.9 GPA and is headed to Colorado College to further his studies.

Jubilee Witte (Connecticut) competes in the sport of wrestling at Foran High School for coach David Esposito.  He placed 3rd in his 2016 state wrestling championships.  Jubilee had a 2016 season record of 41-10 and has a career record of 106-62.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #5 in his class of 220 students.

Jake Woods (Missouri) competes in the sport of wrestling at Lee’s Summit West High School for coach Ethan Hauck.  He is a two-time state placewinner, finishing 8th as a junior and 3rd as a senior.  Jake had a 2016 season record of 44-1 and has a career record of 176-15.  He has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked #52 in his class of 475 students.  He will major in civil-engineering in college.
