The NHSCA,  National High School Coaches Association, is proud to announce Doug Soles, head coach at Great Oak High School in Temecula, California, as its National High School Boys’ Cross Country Coach of the Year.

This past season, Soles’ boys’ team won the national championship by placing first at the Nike Cross Nationals (“NXN”) in Oregon.  The girls’ program finished third at the NXN’s, after placing second in 2014.  Soles also led the boys and girls programs to the 2015 CIF Division I state title — it was the second straight year that both programs finished on-top in California.

Soles has led the Great Oaks boys’ cross country team to the CIF state meet all eleven years that he’s been the program’s head coach.

This year’s boys’ team featured three runners — Spencer Dodds, Isaac Cortes and Cole Spencer — that will run for Division I college programs.  Dodds will attend Texas, Cortes is headed to Stanford and Spencer will run for Cal.

“We are extremely pleased to honor Coach Soles,” said Bobby Ferraro, Executive Director of the NHSCA. “Coach Soles has established Great Oak as one of the best cross country programs in the nation.  He’s exhibited a strong dedication to supporting and developing high school student-athletes.”

Throughout 2016, the NHSCA will be honoring high achievers in the high school coaching community by naming Coaches of the Year in a total of 20 boys’ and girls’ sports.  It’s the 17th straight year that the NHSCA has presented its National Coach of the Year Awards.

Each one of the honorees will receive a beautiful trophy, plus they will be honored in the National Sports Hall of Fame Museum that the NHSCA will be building in the near future.
